Art in Wilderness Book Launch and Exhibition Opening Event

Art in Wilderness Book Launch and Exhibition Opening Event

On Thursday, December 13, 2007 the painting in this photo was included in an exhibition staged by the Sky Island Alliance in Tucson, Arizona. The opening event was held at El Cortijo gallery in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains. It was a beautiful night, clear and cold with a sliver of a moon.

This exhibition is part of a project called Art in Wilderness, the goal of which is to promote the expansion of the Tumacacori Wilderness Area in southern Arizona.

In the fall of 2005, the Sky Island Alliance held a weekend camping trip in the area and invited writers, musicians and artists interested in the environment to attend. Each participant held impressions close and created work to communicate the beauty of the landscape and its effects.

The resulting work was collected into a book, including two CDs of music and readings, which is being sold to support the aim of the wilderness expansion.

My painting is called Tumacacori Highlands.
